Over the summer I found out that I am gluten sensitive. I haven’t been to the doctor for it yet, but I have suffered from eczema ever since I can remember and nothing has been able to help until I cut gluten.
Basically, I was surfing the web, ran across an article that said gluten can affect the skin so I took the chance. What did I have to lose right?
I went gluten free, or at least I thought I did (I’ll get into that later), for two weeks and saw and felt a major difference.
My skin started clearing up, my mind felt sharper, I was more alert, I wasn’t as tired as I used to be, I wasn’t getting terrible headaches…things were looking up. I started eating it again when the two weeks were over and few days later, everything returned.
Okay, so here’s why I said, “I thought I [cut gluten]”. The first two weeks I only cut the obvious foods gluten resides in. Bread, pastries, etc. After further research however, there are so many places gluten hides. I’ll post a link to a list as well as a link to gluten allergy symptoms.
It’s worth noting that there are over 300 symptoms for gluten sensitivity ranging from small things like joint pains and headaches, to depression and ADHD, and even infertility. In my opinion, if there is anything wrong with you, you should attempt to remove gluten from your diet and see how you feel.
I’m still learning myself, it’s not easy, and I still cheat sometimes but I am slowly realizing it’s not worth it. I’m in the process of weaning though. I am just not a cold turkey type of person.
Good luck to you all, hope this helped even a little.
